EXCEL Program
The New Albany Middle School EXCEL Program serves Intellectually and Artistically Gifted students in grades 6-8. Currently, there are about 100 students enrolled in the Middle School EXCEL program.
The Intellectually Gifted students develop High Order Thinking Skills as they engage in a variety of units of study. Topics of interest are researched and presented by students in a variety of forms. Upcycled creations, independent studies, social issues, places around the world, and community-based activities are just a few of the interesting topics covered annually.
The Artistically Gifted students develop visual art skills such as drawing, painting, and 3-D art while learning to appreciate art history. Students compete in a variety of art competitions at the state and national level throughout the year. Student work is displayed throughout the school and community.
Every year, students and parents from the EXCEL classes travel for a fun-filled educational experience. In the past, they have visited New York, Chicago, and Washington, DC. The group spends four days immersing themselves into each destination by seeing sites, meeting locals, attending Broadway shows, visiting museums, and experiencing first-hand the culture of these wonderful cities.
